English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Place of Study: Shetland College UHI, Lerwick and Islesburgh Community Centre, Lerwick
Mode of Study: Part-time, day and evening classes.
Length of course: 1 year

COURSE SUMMARY:
The ESOL programme is for people who do not speak English as their first language and who would like to get better at reading, writing, listening and speaking English. Most of the courses in the ESOL programme are free.
COURSE CONTENT:
A range of ESOL courses are available. You can join a class working towards a qualification at Access 2, Access 3 and Intermediate 1 levels. You can also choose to join an un-certificated class working at a level which suits you. Classes are available both in the day time and in the evening.
All applicants for ESOL courses are assessed by a tutor to help place them in a course which is right for them.

• If you achieve Access 3 or Intermediate 1 ESOL, you will be able to apply for UK Citizenship.
HOW WILL I STUDY?
Teaching staff within each college section provide first-line guidance and support for each student in relation to course work. If additional support is required the college’s support for learning team are available to provide appropriate support tailored to individual student needs.
