SVQ2 Plant Operations (Construction)

COURSE INFORMATION:

Place of Study: Student's workplace

Mode of Study: Part time

Length of Course: Varies depending on previous experience

Start Date: August 2011

Entry Requirements: Participants should be working in a construction plant operating environment

COURSE SUMMARY:

Designed to meet the needs of employees currently working in the trade to meet new industry standards by gaining appropriate certification of competence through demonstrating their ability to maintain and operate a range of machinery.

COURSE CONTENT:

Candidates will be required to build a portfolio making use of: time sheets; risk assessments; and witness statements. Observations will take place on site during normal working hours, minimising any disruption to the working day.

Machinery to be covered will include 360º Excavator, Dumper and Road Roller with others to follow as demand requires.

HOW WILL I STUDY?

At participant's workplace with one-to-one meetings with Shetland College UHI assessors.

PROGRESSION:

Academic: Progression may be linked to industry e.g. HNC Construction Management

Employment/Career: Certified construction plant operator

Former students have: Achieved this qualification to increase employability, meet safety requirements and improve pay scale at their workplace
