What is special about this course?

This Vocational Pathways Contemporary Art Skills course enables the development of a range of contemporary art skills and a project unit which can be structured to support you to develop potential in an area of special interest.

We will supply materials and give each pupil an A3 sketchbook. Tutors will demonstrate techniques and give critical support and you will be encouraged to review each other’s work in a supportive environment.

 

Entry requirements

This Vocational Pathways course is open to S3/S4 pupils.

Styles of drawing, with emphasis on observation; selection of theme or topic for investigation and printmaking.

The aims of this course are to:

  • Provide art skill workshops with professional artists,  which will enable you to experience learning in the college
  • Enable you to share ideas and enthusiasm for art with pupils from across Shetland
  • Complete artwork to meet criteria of SQA units with a range of visual studies and design planning skills

You will be able to use our printmaking workshop and art studios with specialist equipment. Weather permitting, some sessions will include drawing outside in the landscape.

In year two, you will build on drawing skills with more accomplished outcomes and will aim to complete a further two SQA modules.

You will produce a personal sketchbook of investigative studies. You will be encouraged to discuss and share your work in progress.

Part time - one year (9.15am to 4.00pm) plus four hours study per week.

Most full-time students will have their fees paid.

Students on part-time courses may also be eligible to have their course fees waived.

Students can progress on to the NC Art and Design course.
