Mathematics Intermediate 1 and 2

Place of Study: Shetland College UHI, Lerwick and selected Learning Centres

Mode of Study: Evening classes or open learning

Length of course: 1 year

Entry Requirements: None required, but candidates will be expected to have basic numeracy skills

COURSE SUMMARY:

These courses introduce useful concepts in numeracy and basic mathematics. It is a ‘group award’ and includes 3 teaching units and a final exam.

COURSE CONTENT:

The three course units cover basic numeracy, algebra, geometry and statistics. Each unit individually entitles the student to an SQA award:
Intermediate 1 - achieve all three units and pass the final exam to gain the Mathematics Intermediate 1 group award.
Intermediate 2 - achieve all three units and pass the final exam to gain the Mathematics Intermediate 2 group award.

  • Gain three SQA unit awards or the Mathematics Intermediate 1 group award
  • Ideal preparation for Mathematics at Intermediate 2 level
  • Gain access to other courses that have a numeracy or mathematical entry requirement

HOW WILL I STUDY?

From a set book with group discussions and practical exercises at tutor-led workshops. Open learning is also available.

PROGRESSION:

Academic/Employment: Intermediate 1 Maths can be an acceptable entry level numeracy/maths qualification for other courses such as Intermediate 2 Maths,which is a common requirement for entry onto many college courses.

Employment/Career: These courses will provide good proof of your maths skills to a prospective employer
