Start Date: Flexible

Entry Requirements: Participants should be working in a business and administration environment to undertake SVQs in Business and Administration, and in a management role to undertake the SVQs in Management.

COURSE SUMMARY:

SVQs are available in Business and Administration and also in Management to people who are in employment. They are an exciting way of gaining skills and qualifications without having to study full-time. They provide the opportunity to develop expertise and knowledge through on-the-job assessment, as well as gaining vital skills such as team work and problem solving, by working through the units of the awards and demonstrating competence in relation to the performance criteria. With the right combination of theory and practice, these awards help candidates to put their career on track and gain a nationally recognised qualification. Each candidate is required to build an e-portfolio within her/his workplace, by gathering a range of relevant evidence such as work products, personal statements, witness testimonies from line managers, and professional discussions with assessors and line managers.

COURSE CONTENT:

Each SVQ comprises 2 mandatory units, plus several optional units, which can be selected from a variety to suit the candidate’s preferences and workplace requirements.

GOOD REASONS TO STUDY THIS COURSE:

  • Content of each course is very much related to the world of work
  • Candidates build up an e-portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence within their respective workplaces using the latest technology
  • Clear progression routes from one level to the next in Business and Administration
  • Good levels of student support are available, with college assessors making regular visits to candidates’ workplaces to observe candidates as they carry out their workplace duties
  • Assessment takes place on a continuous basis throughout the course.

HOW WILL I STUDY?

All subjects are internally assessed on an ongoing basis by building up e-portfolios of evidence within their workplaces.  Students are expected to make regular use of the college's facilities for research and study.
