European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
COURSE INFORMATION:
Place of Study: Shetland College UHI, Lerwick and all Learning Centres
Mode of Study: Part time or Open Learning
Length of course: Up to 1 year (ECDL will allow you up to 3 years to complete the course but students must re-enrol each year)
Part time optional classes are run at Shetland College UHI, Lerwick three times per week: Wednesdays: 6.00pm - 9.00pm and on Thursdays: 9.00am - 12noon and 2.00pm - 4.00pm.

Entry Requirements: Those completely new to computers are recommended to attend a class at beginner’s level first.
COURSE SUMMARY:
The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is one of the most highly regarded and widely recognised computer users’ qualifications. ECDL certification demonstrates the holder's competence in a broad range of computer skills and Microsoft Office applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
COURSE CONTENT:
Level 1 modules: IT User Fundamentals; Using Email and the Internet; and Security for IT users.
Level 2 modules: Spreadsheet; Word Processing; Presentation; Improving Productivity; and using IT.
The Full ECDL Group Award: IT User Fundamentals; Using Email and the Internet; Security for IT users;
Spreadsheet; Word Processing; Presentation; and Databases.
HOW WILL I STUDY?
Courses run continuously during college term time and can be started at any point in the year. You can study out with the college if you prefer and simply come in to sit your tests.
If you prefer open learning we have an option available that includes self study materials, access to an ECDL-accredited tutor by telephone and e-mail, occasional class tutor time and practice testing. If you would like to study ECDL at college we have an 'all inclusive' package with access to one class per week. You can select your preferred class at time of enrolment.
