Length of course: Full time: 1 year, Part time 2 years
Start Date: August 2011
Entry Requirements: 2 Highers grade C or above (1 in English). Adult returners will be considered without these qualifications. References and an Enhanced Disclosure check and references must be supplied before a place can be offered on this course.
COURSE SUMMARY:
This course covers all aspects of early education and childcare and requires students to undertake a work placement. This course can also give students direct access into year 2 of the BA (Hons) Child and Youth studies course, with an appropriate bridging unit.
COURSE CONTENT:
Subjects covered include:
- Working in an Early Education and Childcare Setting
- Theoretical Approaches to Development and Learning
- Curriculum and Assessment in an Early Education and Childcare Setting
- Understanding and Supporting Children’s Behaviour
- Children and Young People with Additional Support Needs
- Promoting Language, Literacy and Numeracy in Early Education and Childcare
- Children and Young People’s Rights: Provision, Protection and Participation
- Early Education and Childcare: Group Award Graded Unit
- Facilitating Playwork Opportunities
- Strategies and Initiatives to Support Children’s Health and Wellbeing
- Working with 3 to 5 year olds
- Working wtih 5 to 8 year olds
- Contemporary Issues for Children and Families
You will also undertake a work placement in an Early Years setting.
HOW WILL I STUDY?
Teaching of these units will involve short lectures, group discussions, individual exercises, personal study and a work placement.
