Entry Requirements: Candidates would normally be expected to have attained one of the following, or equivalent: Intermediate 2 Sociology Course or Unit(s); 1 Standard Grade in a social subject; Standard Grade English at Credit level; or Intermediate 2 Communication.
COURSE SUMMARY:
Higher Sociology consists of the following 3 units: Studying Human Society: The Sociological Approach;
Understanding Human Society 1; Understanding Human Society 2.
COURSE CONTENT:
Human Society: The Sociological Approach – This unit provides a framework for understanding human behaviour from different sociological theories. By evaluating major sociological theories, candidates will be able to enhance their understanding of the nature and development of human societies.
Understanding Human Society 1 – This Unit focuses on the sociological understanding of two important areas of human social behaviour, Education & Social Stratification.
Understanding Human Society 2 – This Unit focuses on the sociological understanding of two substantive areas of human social behaviour – sociology of the family and sociology of crime & deviance.
HOW WILL I STUDY?
With short lectures, group discussions, individual exercises and personal study. Course units are achieved through internal written assessments, 1 external examination and a research portfolio is also to be submitted at the end of the course.
