Length of course: Part time: 1 year (9.15am – 3.00pm) plus 4 hours study a week (Part-time: Day release)

Entry Requirements: No formal entry requirements. An induction day will be held to assess if individuals are able to work at the required level.
COURSE SUMMARY:
This Higher can be completed through attendance at Shetland College UHI one day per week and consists of 3 units: Values and Principles in Care; Psychology for Care; and Sociology for Care.
COURSE CONTENT:
Values and Principles in Care - This unit examines the role care relationships, current legislation and values and principles have in promoting positive outcomes that underpin social care practice.
Psychology for Care - This unit examines human development and behavior through learning about the key psychological approaches and applying these to social care practice.
Sociology for Care - This unit provides an understanding of wider social influences that can impact on individuals receiving care services. It involves learning about the key sociological perspectives and the influence Sociology has had on the development of values and principles within social care practice.
HOW WILL I STUDY?
Individual tutor support. Units are achieved through Internet-supported lectures, group work, student presentations, internal assessments and an extenal exam.
