Future of Wool Art Competition
Local school children participated in the 'Future of Wool' art competition as part of Shetland Wool Week.
All entries were on display in the Textile corridor of Shetland College to the public during Shetland Wool Week Monday 10th October – Friday 15th October 9-4 and Saturday 16th October 10 -3.
The prize winners were:
Age 6-10 category
1st prize (£25.00) Mia Clark
2nd prize (£15.00) Karis Leask
3rd prize (£10.00) Melissa Arthur
Highly commended by the judges Abby Taylor
Age 11-16 category
1st prize (£25.00) Shannon Jamieson
2nd prize (£15.00) Kay Johnson
3rd prize (£10.00) Emily Anne Moss
The judges were Stephen Renwick, Enterprise Development Officer and Sarah Laurenson, Marketing Manager from Jamieson and Smith. The judges praised individual entries and made the overall comment:
“The entries depict a colourful future for Shetland wool and the budding designers who will to boost the Shetland wool industry.”
Angela Hunt, Head of the Creative Industries Section at Shetland College said:
“a big thank you to all of the children who entered, for their time, effort and bright ideas. It was interesting to see ideas for technology in combination with wool alongside the colourful fashion designs."
