Borrowing from the Library
Staff and Doctoral Students
- Unlimited, depending on need
- Please ensure you renew/return borrowed items on a regular basis
Students
- HE students may have up to 12 items on loan at any one time
- FE students may have up to 6 items at any one time.
- It may be possible to borrow more if required. This is at the discretion of the Librarian and should be discussed if the need arises.
- Certain expensive items, such as some art books, are restricted to staff or students of a particular course.
External Borrowers
- Registered, external users may have up to 2 items on loan at any time.
- Please note that the staff may restrict the lending of certain expensive or hard-to-replace items to college staff and students only.
Renewing and Returning
To Renew your items
- Come to the library in person. You don't need to have the books with you.
- Telephone. 01595 771258.
- By email to the library, giving name, author / title of the material, date due back, and the barcode numbers. library@shetland.uhi.ac.uk
- By logging in to your account on the UHI Library Catalogue
Loans can not be renewed

Returning Items
- Items should be returned on or before the last date stamped on the date label, unless they have ben successfully renewed.

Items should be returned at the library desk. If the library is not staffed at the time of return, please place them in the returns box on the library counter.
Non-Return, Loss and Damage
- Items lost or damaged are charged at replacement cost.
- Please speak to the librarian if you are concerned about an item that has been lost or damaged whilst on loan to you. It is often possible to get an inexpensive, second hand copy.
- Material which is not returned is presumed lost, and is charged at replacement cost, plus an administration charge.
