Professor David Gray, Director

Welcome to Shetland College UHI.

If you are considering further education or you're an adult returner looking to acquire new qualifications, this is a great time to join us.

We have an exciting time ahead as part of Scotland’s newest university; the University of the Highlands and Islands.  We are working hard to continue to develop new courses, for example the National Certificate in Music, which will be available later this year in Shetland’s brand new state-of-the-art cinema and music complex, Mareel.

We will also be extending our campus this year to improve our existing facilities and enhance your learning experience.  Plans will include additional classroom and recreational space, as well as a new training kitchen, internet café and extended library.

Added to this, I have just taken over as Director and I’m keen to hear from current and potential students on how we can continue to improve our offering to ensure we deliver the very best service to you.
Shetland College has a very modern campus located just on the outskirts of Lerwick, Shetland’s capital.  It is a lively, inspiring place to study with the very latest technologies including an Apple Mac suite and new video conferencing equipment.

The staff here are second to none; dedicated, enthusiastic and committed to your learning.  They keep up-to-date with the latest trends, organise fact-finding trips and impart their knowledge in a positive and dynamic way.

In addition to the Gremista campus, we have a number of learning centres throughout Shetland to ensure that we are reaching everyone who has a desire to learn.  We also work closely with training partners Train Shetland and Adult Learning to deliver a training package which meets your needs.  Our nursery, Blyde Haven, provides excellent subsidised child care to students.

Working with local business is important as we can contribute in a positive way to the economic and social development of Shetland by ensuring a highly knowledgeable and skilled workforce.

Above all, we are absolutely committed to helping you realise your potential and will do everything we can to ensure you fulfil your lifelong career ambitions.

We look forward to welcoming you through our doors.
