Assessor Qualification content

Assessor Qualification

SQA Accredited Assessor Qualification

Assess Workplace Competence Using Direct and Indirect Methods, this award replaces the previous A1 Assessor Award.

* An introductory teaching day covering how to prepare and plan assessments and how to assess performance and knowledge.
* This intro day will also outline what is involved in achieving the qualification and ensure candidates have a clear understanding of what is required of them.
* Workplace assessments by trainer - at a time and place to suit candidates.
* Ongoing contact and support from the trainer who will be contactable throughout the duration of your qualification.

This is a qualification for people who -
* Assess in the workplace using a wide range of assessment methods, both direct and indirect. This will include observation, examination of work products, questioning and possibly also discussion with candidates, witness testimonies, candidate statements, assessing candidates in simulated environments.
* It is likely those undertaking the qualification will be involved in a range of assessing situations such as assessing SVQs, other workplace qualifications or in-house company standards.

To achieve this qualification assessor candidates must -
* Assess the competence of two candidates on two occasions in their place of work using a set of standards such as those provided by national awarding/standard setting body or the candidates employer.
* Each assessment should cover the full assessment cycle to include planning, judging evidence, providing feedback and recording the decision.

Time Commitment
In addition to the teaching day and workplace assessments you will be required to undertake some study and preparation in your own time. You should allow a minimum of 12 hours for this.

Assessment Process
This involves preparing a portfolio of evidence to meet the assessment criteria and also undertaking a minimum of two assessments on two different candidates. You may, however, also wish to undertake some practice assessments.

* You will meet your trainer on day one of the training and they will also come to your workplace to undertake your assessments.
* The trainer can also be contacted out with the training days for support/ information

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is a 1 day course and valid for three years. Unit L&D11 Internally Monitor and Maintain the Quality of Workplace Assessment 

This unit is for those monitoring assessment processes and decisions within an organisation and helping to maintain and improve the quality of workplace assessment. The internal quality assurance process being conducted by the internal verifier-candidate can be for SVQs, work-based qualifications or in-company standards.

To achieve this unit the verifier-candidate is required to carry out the monitoring activities defined in their organisations quality assurance procedures in accordance with appropriate external quality assurance requirements.

Knowledge will be assessed by taking part in a discussion with their assessor, answering questions (written or oral), verifier-candidate statement or a combination of all of these.

The verifier-candidate will be observed monitoring the activities of one assessor.

Paediatric First Aid at Work - 2 Day

This two day course is for individuals with responsibility for the welfare of infants and children, who wish to become paediatric first-aiders in the workplace. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in the industry.

Topics within this course are important for maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in infants and children.

Content includes the roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider, how to provide first aid to an infant or child who is unresponsive, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). It also covers how to administer first aid to an infant or child who is choking or has a fracture. Participants also learn first aid for other conditions, such as burns, electric shock and sudden poisoning. 

REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene content

REHIS Elementary HACCP

All food businesses are required to operate a documented food safety management system based on HACCP principles. Training in HACCP is also a requirement for those involved in its operation and management. Cook Safe is a system adopted by the Food Standards Agency that assists hospitality and catering businesses to understand and implement a practical HACCP based system.

REHIS Elementary Health and Safety

Who is this qualification for?

This training course is designed to address employers’ responsibilities for the welfare and safety of all employees, as well as employees’ responsibilities for both themselves and others.

Topics covered

An introduction to the importance of health and safety, accidents and work-related ill health and why they occur and why the welfare of people at work is important. It will offer general guidance regarding good health and safety practice within all sectors of industry.

Assessment method

REHIS Intermediate Food Hygiene content

REHIS Intermediate Food Hygiene

This five day course provides delegates with an understanding of the relationship between food hygiene, food poisoning and food spoilage. It explains the socio-economic costs of poor food hygiene and the role of HACCP and hazard analysis in ensuring food safety.

Day 5 includes a witten examination.

Suuccessful candidates will be awarded a REHIS (Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland) Intermediate Food Hygiene certificate

Sharps Awareness

This is a short half day course which raises awareness of the risks and responsibilities when dealing with sharps and to help delegates understand the dangers to their health and safety when handling or disposing “sharps”.

This three day course will cover the essential elements involved in preparing, delivering and evaluating a training session. This training is practical with plenty opportunity to learn through group discussion, case studies and role play. Participants will have time to work on and practice delivering a training session they have designed and then receive feedback on this.

Please note that some time out with the course will be needed to prepare for delivering a short training session on day three.

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn the basics of designing and delivering a training session.
