Funding for local employers to help reskill and train their employees

The Flexible Workforce Development Fund (FWDF) was launched by the Scottish Government in September 2017 and is funded through contributions to the UK Apprenticeship Levy. Now in its sixth year, in 2022/23 the fund will provide £10m of training to employers in Scotland.

The aim of the fund is to provide eligible employers with workforce development training to up-skill and re-skill their existing workforce. This training will enable employers to address skills gaps within their workforce and allow them to become more productive and efficient, as well as helping with post-COVID recovery.

We appreciate that all businesses have widely differing skills and training needs, so courses at UHI Shetland can be bespoke and tailored to individual needs/requirements. You can also see a list of courses below that are applicable for FWDF funding.

Who is Eligible?

  • Employers who pay the Apprenticeship Levy can access up to £15k of funding
  • Small to medium businesses (under 250 employees) can access up to £5k of funding

Contact study.shetland@uhi.ac.uk mentioning your interest in the FWDF, and we will be more than happy to discuss any training requirements and eligibility questions you may have. Alternatively you can call us on 01595 771000.

Applications must be received by July 31st 2023.

Courses must be completed by end of December 2023.
