What is special about this course?

This course is designed to provide you with a firm foundation for building the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in hairdressing.The course content provides foundation training including basic cutting and colouring which are the key units required within the hairdressing industry.
This is a practical hands-on course providing you with practical skills within our training salon to enter the industry at Junior Stylist level

You must have an ability and willingness to communicate with people to be successful in the hairdressing industry.
Special features:
• You will gain practical skills in a rewarding and creative industry
• You will study full time and gain core skills and SVQ Level 2 in hairdressing.
• There are progression opportunities on completion of this course
• You will study within our training salon and have work experience in real working environment using professional products

Entry requirements

Preferably two National 4 qualifications or equivalent.

Prospective students without the standard entry requirements would be encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis.

You will be invited to an interview.

  • Plait & Twist
  • Basic Colouring Techniques
  • Basic Styling Techniques
  • Introduction to Counselling
  • Core Skills: Numeracy, Communication, and Information and Communication Technology

Equipment

You will be required to purchase hairdressing kit for this course (Kit Approx. £100). If you are eligible for a bursary these costs will be covered.

Full-time face-to-face teaching.

How will I be assessed?

    This is a practical based course with face-to-face practical classes on campus.

    While we operate a training salon, you are encouraged to find your own clients where possible to meet the specific requirements of the portfolio.

What can I do on completion of my course?

Upon completion of this course, you may progress onto:

  • Hairdressing SVQ (SCQF Level 6).

Alternatively, you can enter employment within the hairdressing industry as a Junior Stylist or set up independently.
