NQ Childhood Practice SCQF Level 6
What is special about this course?
This comprehensive course provides the theory and practical experience of working with children in an early years setting. Students who successfully complete this NQ course can register with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Support Worker in the Day Care of Chldren Service
This course is suitable for those who are looking work with children in a variety of settings. It also offers progression to the HNC Childhood Practice.
Former students have gained employment as support workers in schools, after school clubs and private nurseries, or moved on to further study.
4 passes at National 5, one must be an English based subject.
Or, 4 Intermediate 2 passes (A - C), one must be an English based subject.
Adult returners will be considered without these qualifications.
All applicants will be interviewed.
This is a Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course. For further information visit this webpage.

How will I study my course?
- Full Time
- Part Time
You will study through short lectures, group discussions, reflection on practice and individual study. Some of this will be delivered face-to-face and some units will be delivered online via virtual classroom.
You will have placement for 2 days per week during the duration of the course – you will be expected to fit in with the working timings of the setting.
How long will my course last?
Full time = 1 academic year / Part time over 2 years
College 3 days per week from end August to end June. Placement 2 days per week (Monday & Friday)
How will I be assessed?
There are a variety of assessment methods used within this qualification. There will be written assessments, reflective accounts, short tests, presentations and discussion.
