Shetland to Voss
An opportunity for Further Education students at Shetland College UHI to spend a month in Norway on work placement.
We have previously delivered an exciting Vocational Education Training Programme as part of an Erasmus+ funded project.
We are re-launching this project with our partner school in Voss, Norway in 2018.
You can find out more by reading about the opportunity by downloading this Information Brochure.
Applications are closed for this year but stay tuned to hear updates of the project.
Since January 2011 Shetland Islands Council and Shetland College have worked with partner organisations in Voss, Norway, to offer fully-funded reciprocal work placements for students in vocational training.
Prior to 2015, this project was made possible owing to a successful application under the Leonardo da Vinci Mobility arm of the European Union's Lifelong Learning Programme. In 2018 the college submitted a successful bid to Erasmus+ for continuation of this project.
Ten students from Shetland travelled to Voss to undertake placements in spring 2012 and a further six students spent four weeks in Norway in 2013. During these periods participants from Shetland College undertook work placements in the fields of health & care, art & design and digital media.
In spring 2014 this opportunity was extended to other departments of Shetland College UHI, allowing students studying Music, Construction, business and hospitality courses to apply also.
Shetland has received students from Norway on five occasions (spring 2011, spring 2012, spring 2013, spring 2014 and spring 2015). These young Norwegians have worked a variety of fields, including social care, media, heritage and computing.
In 2016 we had students from our partner school in Voss here for one month. Some of the students were based at Shetland College UHI and they made this short you-tube film as part of their placement.
