The college has excellent Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities throughout the main campus and learning centres. All learning and teaching areas are provisioned with modern PCs or laptops running Windows 7, and there are two dedicated suites of Apple iMac computers for creative industries and music. All computers have internet access, with email and online collaboration provided through the UHI Office 365 cloud-based system.
ICT is regularly used to support learning and teaching in all college courses, and all main teaching spaces are equipped with interactive whiteboards and display/multimedia equipment. Wireless access is available throughout the main campus and learning centres, including a “bring your own device” (BYOD) service enabling staff and students to use their personal mobile devices (laptops, phones, tablets, etc.) to access the internet and email.
Remote access is available to all enrolled students and staff through the MyUHI service, providing access to applications and user data from virtually anywhere. Many courses make use of a virtual learning environment (VLE) – such as Blackboard or Learning Assistant – a web based system that provides access to teaching materials, guidance and support, as well as accessing and submitting assessments.
There are three fully equipped video conference (VC) suites on the main campus, as well as VC facilities in the learning centres. Desktop VC is available in the library and on some of the learning computers. VC is used extensively in the delivery of some HE programmes and is available at all UHI partners and any other compatible site worldwide.
ICT is supported at the main campus and learning centres by a small but dedicated team based at Gremista.
