There are also specialised computer labs and an Apple Mac design suite. This allows for hands on experience for our IT students who study computer and network maintenance and assembly.

If you enjoy practical work, being creative we offer a range of courses for you. Whether you are in senior phase of school, thinking about a craft apprenticeship or want to further your career, our construction courses are open for you.

About Lerwick

Lerwick is a thriving town with plenty going on, and despite its relatively small size, it is by no means under-resourced. We are in the privileged position of being able to tap into truly first-class amenities and living here you will never be short of inspiration or things to do.

Our flagship Shetland Museum and Archives, goes from strength to strength, with impressive and regularly updated exhibitions that capture the essence of Shetland and its people. The award-winning museum also houses a state-of-the-art archive storage facility and search room; a lecture hall; and an outstanding café restaurant. It’s a favourite venue with both visitors and locals alike.

Mareel, is Shetland’s impressive cinema, music and creative industries centre, which is located on Lerwick’s waterfront. The facilities available are incredible, including two cinema screens, a live performance auditorium, rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, and a café bar with free Wi-Fi. With cinema performances, live music and other regular events, there is always something interesting on at Mareel.

The Lerwick library offers a comprehensive selection of up-to-date books and literature. It also houses a Learning Centre which offers free computer facilities and internet access. The library hosts a diverse range of events to encourage a love of the written word, including a weekly book group, literary competitions, book launches, author tours and the popular children’s Bookbug scheme.

The sports facilities throughout the islands are excellent, with a network of leisure centres including swimming pools, badminton and squash courts, and much more. The largest is Clickimin Leisure Complex in Lerwick.

The islands themselves are perhaps the richest archive and inspiration of all, with their unique culture and heritage. Being here is unlike anywhere else and if you have an open mind and keen interest in your surroundings, then there is an abundance of new experiences and fascinating things to uncover.
