As an Academic Partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands, the College secured a grant of EUR 45,696.00 to deliver their new Learning Mobility programme over 24 months.  This allows the partnership developed with the community of Voss to continue.

The College has been running programmes with the Voss community since 2011 with dozens of students in various fields having undertaken fully funded work placements since. This latest round of funding will see a further two exchanges take place with the first in Spring 2019 and the final one in 2020.

The project stems from the view that international learning can increase the quality of young people's education in general and in particular in relation to vocational training.

For the next two years, Further Education students in Health & Care, Computing, Construction, Creative Industries and Business & Hospitality will be able to apply for the opportunity with up to 20 students and staff funded to go to Voss between now and June 2020. Students from Voss will also come to Shetland for a reciprocal programme of placements. Applications for interested students are open until Friday 28th September.

Jacqui Clark, Joint Operations Manager at Shetland College UHI, said “We are delighted to have secured funding to enable a further two vocational exchanges for our students in Norway.  It is clear that our students gain a huge amount of vocational and life experience through this project which benefits their overall learning experiences and improves their employability skills.”  She added, “The additional benefit of cultural exchange is also a real highlight and we’ve seen in previous years how much our students enjoy showing off Shetland to their new friends from Voss.”
