Are you interested in a career in Health and Social Care? This FREE course will get you there.

You will learn a wide range of skills from our industry-experienced team on campus and you will gain real-work experience on a workplace placement in the second half of the course.

There are a huge variety of career opportunities within health and social care and the sector has lots of vacancies. We will match your placement with your interest.

Entry requirements

This is an entry level course and it requires no formal qualifications

You will learn a wide range of practical skills including:

  • Practical skills for carers
  • First aid
  • Moving and handling
  • Supporting the physical and mental health of others

How will I study my course?

  • Part Time

Face to face delivery:2 days per week for 5 weeks, followed by a placement for 2 days per week for 5 weeks.

How long will my course last?

10 Weeks

You will be in college or on your placement on a Wednesday and Thursday from 930am-230pm and the course will run for 10 weeks.

How will I be assessed?

    This course will be assessed in a variety of ways including creating posters, fact sheets, short reports and practical skills.

What can I do on completion of my course?

After successfully completing this course you will be eligible for a ‘guaranteed interview’ with the Shetland Island Council for relief social care posts.
