English - Alternative to Higher (INTENSIVE COURSE) SCQF Level 6

What is special about this course?

This course provides an opportunity to achieve a Higher-level English qualification, in a focussed 4-week period. It is accepted by many colleges and universities across Scotland as an alternative qualification to Higher English.
The course is assessed through ongoing class-based assignments rather than a final exam, with the focus on developing the communication and critical analysis skills you need to take your education or employment further.
Online teaching, support and feedback will be offered and this can be tailored to individual needs, but the majority of the course will be your own self-study, using our online resources. There will be six assessments to complete, including an essay, a presentation on a poem or short story, and listening and reading analysis assessments.

The course meets one of the entry requirements for PGDE teaching qualification.

Entry requirements

This intensive course is designed for students who are already working confidently at Higher level in terms of writing, speaking and critical analysis, and can evidence this.

For example, it would be suitable for students who have studied at HND or degree level and who need to gain an English qualification in order to progress.

The course consists of 2 units:

  • NC Communication (SCQF level 6)
  • Literature 1

Both units taken together are accepted by many Higher Educational establishments as an alternative to Higher English.

Both units are also offered as stand alone units.
