Associate Professorship for Rachel
Dr Rachel Shucksmith has been awarded the title of Associate Professor of Marine Management and Governance by the UHI Academic Council.
Rachel is the Marine Spatial Planning Manager at UHI Shetland, and she leads on applied research and consultancy projects in marine spatial planning. At UHI Shetland, in collaboration with Shetland Islands Council she has led the development of one of Europe’s most advanced regional marine plans and champions the integration of local knowledge and data in marine decision-making.
Commenting on the title award Rachel said:
“I am delighted to have been awarded the title of Associate Professor by UHI. Local knowledge, data and communities are key to the long-term sustainable management of our marine environment.”
UHI Principal and CEO, Professor Jane Lewis added:

Her impact includes the pioneering development of the Shetland Islands Regional Marine plan and the Shetland Islands Biosecurity Plan.
