Celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week! Foundation Apprenticeships and Academy Programmes for Senior Pupils - Spotlight On: Luca Watt

Did you know that you can continue valuable secondary school education while gaining professionally recognised qualifications and industry experience? Here at Shetland College UHI we are working in partnership with SIC Schools Service and NAFC Marine Centre UHI, to deliver Foundation Apprenticeships and Academy Programmes to school pupils in Secondary 5 and Secondary 6. Anderson High School pupil Luca Watt is currently studying Construction through our Academy Programme and will obtain the National Certificate (NC) in Built Environment.

Luca said he had a great interest in learning more about the built environment which is why he applied for the course. He looked forward to learning new things each time he was in college and appreciated being treated like an adult with first class support and teaching from lecturers.

"I am not sure exactly which direction I will take after studying but would like to have a career in construction as the course has given me a good introduction and better understanding of the built environment. I would say that anybody considering applying for a Foundation Apprenticeship or Academy programme should go for it! I am glad I chose to do it and have really enjoyed the experience."

Thanks to Luca for sharing his thoughts about the course and how he is enjoying it.

If you are at high school and are considering studying the Academy Programme in Construction Studies (NC Built Environment) or our new Foundation Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering, you can find more information on the schools section of our website and application forms are due in by Monday 23rd March.
