UHI Shetland launches new Marine Biology and Environmental Science course

UHI Shetland are proud to launch a new CertHE Introduction to marine biology, environmental science and sustainability course.

The course is designed for school leavers, adult learners, and students seeking accelerated progression to university in environmental, marine, and renewable science disciplines.

Positioned uniquely within Shetland’s exceptional natural environment, the programme offers hands-on fieldwork, practical ecological survey skills, climate and renewables training, and industry-aligned learning in aquaculture and fisheries. Students will explore core themes including environmental systems, marine biology, biodiversity, pollution, climate change, net zero and the rapidly expanding field of marine renewable energy. The programme emphasises practical skills, with extensive training in ecological surveying, data collection, sampling techniques, and applied research methods used in everyday marine management.
