Staff from the NAFC Marine Centre UHI this week joined the crew of the local pelagic fishing boat Adenia, which was open to the public as part of Shetland Boat Week. Centre staff Caroline Hepburn and Ian Napier were on hand to help answer questions from some of the many visitors about the fish caught by the Adenia and about training opportunities at NAFC, as well as distributing information leaflets.

Amongst the visitors to the Adenia were Captain Sean Rathbone and Frazer Munro (Mate) from the Northern Lighthouse Board vessel Pole Star which was berthed alongside the Adenia. This provided a useful opportunity to strengthen the close relationship which NAFC has with the Northern Lighthouse Board. The Board sponsors valuable annual prizes for the Centre's deck and engineer cadets and jobs on their vessels are sought after by many cadets when their training is finished.

NAFC is also offering sessions in its ship-bridge simulator as part of Shetland Boat Week. These will allow visitors to try their hand at steering a ship, while keeping their feet firmly on dry land!Sessions cane be booked via the Shetland Boat Week website.
