In the lead up to the festival, the construction department worked closely with the squad to machine the wooden shields they brandished on the day. In particular, college staff were able to utilise CNC Router technology to carve the striking wolf head design. The college has a history of supporting local fire festivals, as the Textile Facilitation Unit has provided knitted garments to several Jarl squads over the years.

Lyall Gair (an ex SVQ Carpentry and Joinery student himself) presented a shield to Susan Berry in her role as Acting Depute Principal. Also in attendance was Eric Moncrieff, who completed the design work and spent a lot of time in the college machining the shields.
