English language requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate their ability to use English well enough to be able to fully participate in their course.

If you come from a country classified by the UKBA as a “non majority English-speaking” you must submit an English language proficiency certificate along with your application. See the UK Border Agency English language requirements for more information.

Minimum English Language proficiency level is as follows:

Undergraduate courses

  • IELTS 6.0 (min. 5.5 in all 4 components)
    validity: 2 years; documents required: Test Report Form
  • TOEFL (Internet-based): 87 or above (min. listening: 21, reading: 22, speaking:23, writing: 21)
    validity: 2 years; documents required: Score Report
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): C (minimum)
    validity: no expiry; documents required: Certificate and Statement of Results
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B (minimum)
    validity: no expiry; documents required: Certificate and Statement of Results
  • PTE Academic: 59 or above
    validity: 2 years; documents required: online printout of Score Report (we will verify it via the Secure Results Website); Scores must also be assigned to UKBA online

Postgraduate courses

  • IELTS 6.5 or above
    validity: 2 years; documents required: Test Report Form
  • TOEFL (Internet-based): 90-100
    validity: 2 years; documents required: Score Report
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): C (minimum)
    validity: no expiry; documents required: Certificate and Statement of Results
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: B (minimum)
    validity: no expiry; documents required: Certificate and Statement of Results
  • PTE Academic: 62 or above (min. 59 in all 4 components)
    validity: 2 years; documents required: online printout of Score Report (we will verify it via the Secure Results Website)
