Safeguarding and Prevent Information
All staff have a duty of care to respond appropriately to any protection concerns relating to those we come into contact with.
- Staff are here to listen to any concerns that you have for yourself or a fellow student.
- Staff will not make assumptions about whether harm/abuse has taken place.
- Staff want to reassure you and will be sensitive to any anxieties you have. Staff cannot guarantee confidentiality.
- Staff will have to pass on information to the named UHI Shetland Safeguarder or appropriate contact and ensure that you are kept safe.
- Staff will record everything you tell them and will keep you informed of what happens at every step of the process.
Gender Based Violence: We use the term Gender Based Violence (GBV) to refer to many forms of harm, abuse, and harassment. This includes domestic abuse (including coercive control), sexual harassment, rape & sexual assault, and wider harms relating to someone's gender identity and/or sexual orientation. You can find out more about Gender Based Violence and how we can support you at Support to keep you safe - Gender Based and Sexual Violence

Prevent: where you are worried a person is susceptible to radicalisation
Prevent aims to stop radicalisation and terrorism. Under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act (2015), schools and childcare providers must help protect individuals at risk, as part of safeguarding duties.
