Skills for Work Engineering Skills provides a range of practical skills and basic knowledge of engineering activities which will prepare you for work in a range of engineering industries. The course runs over 2 years (S3 & S4) and is very practical: most of your time will be spent in our engineering, welding, fabrication or electrical workshops.

When you complete the you will be awarded a Skills for Work - Engineering Skills award which is SQA accredited at SCQF Level 4.

  • You will use the skills you have gained to make and assemble an engineering artefact.

Progression

When you have completed your Skills for Work Engineering Skills course you be able to progress to our Engineering Academy course in S5/S6.

Other progression options when you have finished school will include a Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering, a National Certificate (NC) in Engineering Practice or a Merchant Navy Engineering Officer Cadetship.

You will receive a free bus pass to travel to and from Scalloway but you will be responsible for making your own way to and from the college.
