Research Interests

Dr Siún Carden’s current research interests include the creative economy as it relates to place; ‘maker cultures’ around textile production; and art and anthropology. She is Principal Investigator on Home and Belonging, a 3-year, arts-based research project about what home and belonging mean for care experienced young people in Shetland and beyond. This work is supported with funding from the Life Changes Trust. The Trust is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. Siún Carden teaches on the UHI MA in Art and Social Practice. Her PhD research in Social Anthropology (Queen’s University Belfast, 2010) examined the redevelopment of Belfast’s Falls Road area as an Irish language-themed cultural hub. Prior to her doctoral research, she completed a degree in Social Anthropology and English Literature at the University of Glasgow, followed by an MA in Social Anthropology at Queen’s University Belfast. From 2013-2016 she was a research assistant in the School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering, Queen’s University Belfast.
