Research Interests

Edina Szeles is a textile artist and designer who uses textiles to investigate the impact of material culture and the environment, the landscape, seascape and built environment, on our understanding and expression of place. Links between historical and contemporary culture, and the history of Shetland textiles in relation to contemporary practice, underpin her practice, including the relationship between digital technology and textiles. Research / teaching linkages are important, for as an educator, it is essential to develop her research and professional practices on an ongoing basis, to inform her teaching and enable her to share with students the skills, knowledge and understanding gained through her research.
